Johanna Long Starts Title Defense with Two Top 10 Runs

Off Nights Leave Johanna Ready to Rebound in the Next Round
“We qualified really well and then we had a long green flag run at it hurt a lot of us,” said Long.  “Our car was free in, free in the center and free off.  We lost a lap, but with four laps to go we got back on the lead lap. We finished seventh and made a bad night go good.”

The following night the car was the complete opposite, as Long battled tight conditions at Mobile.

“We had the car tight in qualifying and we struggled to get to qualify 9th fastest,” added Long.  “We just couldn’t get off the corners in the race. It was just an overall bad weekend from what we are used to. There are some tough drivers in this series, and it’s going to be hard to run well.  We will just go back to the shop and do our homework and come back with better results next time.”

Long will return to action on May 28th and 29th in the next two races of the Gulf Coast Championship Series at Five Flags and Mobile.

2009 was a dream season for Johanna Long in the Gulf Coast Championship Series. The 17-year-old from Pensacola Florida won three races and the overall championship, but that has been a distant memory so far this year.  Her kick-off to the 2010 series had a few roadblocks with some ill handling cars.  A pair of weekend events for Long though show signs of improvement in her camp, as she finished seventh at Five Flags Speedway on Friday night and sixth at Mobile International Speedway on Saturday.
